Sander Martijn Jonker

Sander Martijn Jonker (*1977, The Netherlands) is a Dutch artist and photographer whose work embodies a seamless fusion of craftsmanship and artistic expression. Living and working near Eindhoven, Jonker draws on his background in both fine arts and woodworking to create meticulously crafted wall sculptures that evoke a sense of timelessness and precision. His creations are a testament to the combination of a photographer's keen eye for detail and a builder’s mastery of traditional techniques.

Artistic Approach and Craftsmanship
Jonker's works are made primarily from natural fiber-reinforced plaster and wood, with each piece meticulously handcrafted to ensure authenticity and texture. His preference for monochromatic color schemes allows the subtle interplay of light and shadow to become the focus of the viewer's attention, heightening the visual impact of his sculptures. The materiality and craftsmanship inherent in his pieces reflect his dedication to both the conceptual and physical processes of art-making.

Order and Chaos in Harmony
A central theme in Jonker’s work is the tension between order and chaos. He explores this dynamic through the use of symmetry, balance, and repetition, juxtaposed with more organic, spontaneous elements. This contrast imbues his wall sculptures with a sense of movement and energy, encouraging viewers to engage with the pieces on a deeper level. The dialogue between structure and unpredictability reflects his fascination with the coexistence of opposing forces in both art and life.
