Teodóra Róka

Teodóra Róka, born in 1998 in Hungary, is an emerging interdisciplinary artist currently based in the Netherlands. Róka’s artistic journey began in her home country, where she studied art history and foundational drawing techniques under Zoltán Farkas. At the age of 18, she moved to the Netherlands to attend NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences, where she deepened her engagement with art through lessons in painting techniques from Dutch artist Sjaak Menger, for whom she also worked as a studio assistant for a year.

Teodóra completed a specialization in Modern and Contemporary Art and Design through the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) with a focus on Modern Art & Ideas, which provided her with further grounding in contemporary artistic practices. Over the past four years, Róka has established herself as an independent artist and curator, developing her own interdisciplinary practice in the northern Netherlands.

Artistic Vision and Approach

Róka’s artistic practice spans painting, sculpture, and performance art, often focused on expressing the complexity of the subconscious mind, dreams, memories, and fleeting moments. Through her stream-of-consciousness approach, Róka explores how memories and thoughts fluidly intertwine with the present, creating works that capture both the fragility and density of the mind's workings. Her works often consist of meticulously layered textures, each layer building on the next to reflect the depth of human consciousness.
Her pieces evoke a delicate balance between stimulation and calm, drawing viewers in while simultaneously creating a sense of distance and longing, embodying a paradoxical sense of infinity. By intertwining sound, shape, and memory in her visual art, Róka creates musical structures where these elements coexist.

Curatorial Work and Collaborations

In addition to her personal practice, Teodóra has played a vital role in the local art community. She founded and curated the ‘DREAMZZ’ artist residency, an initiative aimed at supporting female artists. She has also collaborated with organizations such as Explore the North festival, COOLTURE, Ffataal, Arcadia, VHDG, and Stukafest. These collaborations have enriched her curatorial work, showcasing her ability to connect artists with the wider public through diverse exhibitions and cultural events.

Community and Philanthropy

Róka’s commitment to giving back to her community is evident in her philanthropic activities. She has donated both her time and work to charities such as International Kinderhulp Nederland, Kesho Congo NGO, and schools in Bhaktapur, Nepal. Her belief in using art as a vehicle for positive change is central to her practice, both as an artist and a curator.
