Biografie

Rinke Joosten

Rinke Joosten is a Dutch ceramic artist and designer based in Rotterdam, known for her innovative approach to material experimentation. She graduated from the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam and founded her design studio in 2018. Rinke’s work focuses on the intersection of craftsmanship and material exploration, often allowing the natural properties of her chosen mediums to guide the creative process rather than imposing strict control over them.

Joosten’s work emphasizes the importance of the production process itself, often raising questions about efficiency in an industrialized world that values speed and uniformity. Instead, her work highlights the beauty of inefficiency and unpredictability, resulting in unique, handcrafted pieces that blend artistic freedom with careful craft execution.

Her "Momentum" series, which includes organically shaped ceramics, is a key example of her approach. The series explores the relationship between material freedom and creative control, showcasing a deep connection between the artist and the ceramic medium. These works have been exhibited at galleries such as Rademakers Gallery and have been featured in international fairs like Art Rotterdam and Enter Art Fair Copenhagen
