Teun Zwets
Teun Zwets (1992) is a Dutch designer who prefers to work without a fixed plan. His approach is characterized by spontaneity, intuition, and a hefty dose of boldness. In 2020, he graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven with his project Teunland, a colorful and surprising collection of furniture made from found materials.
What makes Teun unique is his unguarded way of designing: he dives into his workshop and lets himself be guided by what he encounters. His creations often arise from impulsive discoveries and unexpected material combinations. This freedom results in pieces full of energy and playfulness, where he finds beauty in things others might overlook.
Teun loves grand gestures and striking colors. His work feels like a celebration of shapes and textures, where imperfection plays a key role in the design. This approach earned him the Kazerne Design Award in 2021 and exhibitions during events such as Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven and Salone del Mobile at Rossana Orlandi in Milan.
In addition to his own projects, Teun has also worked on commissions for brands like Heineken, G-Star, where his fearless approach and distinctive style clearly shine through. Whether working on an art project for the tax authorities or creating unique pieces for prominent clients, Teun remains true to his impulsive style. His art not only surprises but is also guaranteed to put a smile on your face.
"I work intuitive, hands-on, and like to think practical. I’m not a person that overthinks or makes things complicated. By just doing things, I find out if things work or not work. I use a lot of material that people throw away. The beauty of other people’s trash I find amazing," Teun Zwets
The ‘Splitted’ furniture collection, a set of one-of-a-kind pieces made from split wood. Inspired by the beauty of splitting wood, each item showcases the natural qualities of the material. This collection shows the charm of wood grain in furniture, ensuring that every chair, table, cabinet, etc., is a unique creation crafted with an axe.
All the pieces in the collection are made from Douglas Fir wood, polished with care through extensive sanding and primer paints. The final layer is a tough, and durable glossy lacquer. The artist is open to custom configurations and unique requests.
