AiRich
AiRich (pronounced 'Eye-Rich') is a prominent visual artist based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, whose work intersects photography, fine arts, and identity exploration. After completing her studies in Audiovisual Design & Animation in 2013, AiRich turned her attention to photography and fine arts, discovering a new medium through which she could develop her own visual language. Her distinctive style is marked by vibrant, futuristic portrayals of Black individuals, emphasizing the importance of rediscovering and redefining Black identity within the African Diaspora.
Artistic Vision
The characters in AiRich’s work are portrayed exclusively by Black models, focusing on individuals from Africa and the African Diaspora. Her work often blends traditional African aesthetics with modern and futuristic elements, creating a visually striking celebration of Black culture and heritage. Through her work, AiRich seeks to reclaim and redefine Black identity, using her portraits to highlight the strength, beauty, and diversity of the Black experience.
Exhibitions and Recognition
AiRich’s work has been exhibited in several notable museums in The Netherlands, including Het Nederlands Fotomuseum, Centraal Museum, and the Amsterdam Museum. Her international acclaim has grown as well, with her participation in the Dak’Art Biennale in 2022 in Senegal further solidifying her as a major figure in contemporary art.
In 2023, AiRich presented her first solo exhibition at the Stedelijk Museum Schiedam, where she showcased a 10-year retrospective of her visual work, along with a new series titled Den Doro. This milestone exhibition was a significant moment in her career, demonstrating her evolution as an artist. Moreover, the Stedelijk Museum Schiedam has acquired several of her artworks for their permanent collection, marking her growing influence in the art world.
