Emma van Amerongen
Emma van Amerongen
Emma van Amerongen (*1999, Netherlands) is a contemporary Dutch artist based in Utrecht. Her work, characterized by colorful and atmospheric paintings, explores the ambiguous space between memory, fantasy, feelings, and reality. Working primarily with acrylic ink on cotton, Van Amerongen lets her materials dictate the flow of the creative process, constantly balancing control with spontaneity. This results in artworks that feel open to interpretation, allowing the viewer to experience a sense of recognition while drawing on their imagination.
Her paintings often begin with a specific image she has seen, but through her technique and material exploration, the final product distances itself from the original reference. This interplay of control and coincidence gives her work a dreamy, ethereal quality, evoking the fleeting nature of memory.
