Overview

Maria-Patricia Lupașcu

Maria-Patricia Lupașcu is a contemporary designer and ceramic artist whose work reflects her passion for handcrafting and her deep engagement with form, texture, and color. From an early age, Lupașcu was drawn to the tactile nature of materials, particularly ceramics, which she uses to transform abstract ideas into tangible, physical forms.

For Lupașcu, shape is fundamental to her design process. She emphasizes that the forms she creates are not just visually captivating but also engage the sense of touch, inviting viewers to interact with her works physically. Her designs often balance functionality with artistic expression, giving each piece a sense of purpose and identity.

My Casa Mare

My Casa Mare is the latest design project of Maria-Patricia, that takes influence from her Moldovan heritage, focusing on the significance of Casa Mare. By drawing from the artist's culture and utilizing an innovative approach—using fabrics to create ceramic molds - she crafts objects that visually represent Casa Mare, or " The Big House."

Casa Mare is a meticulously decorated room where Moldovan families host important rituals and holidays. It houses the most valuable possessions, such as carpets, dowry chests, embroidered towels, and expensive objects. Traditionally, a well-maintained Casa Mare symbolizes the foundation of a family's success and showcases generational wealth and craftsmanship through beautiful handcrafted items and heirlooms.

As a designer, Lupașcu prioritizes authenticity and embrace her cultural identity. This project has deepened the artist's self-awareness, accentuating her attraction to rounded and flowy shapes rooted in the ornamental motifs of her upbringing. Drawing inspiration from familiar elements such as wall carpets, Maria-Patricia created a collection that pays homage to Casa Mare’s aesthetics while infusing it with her unique perspective. Through this collection, she celebrate her cultural heritage while exploring new aspects of herself as a designer. By reimagining traditional motifs within a modern context, the objects become independent characters, reflecting Lupașcu's identity, passion, and connection to home.
