Overview

Antoine Peters

Antoine Peters (*1981, Nijmegen, Netherlands) is a visionary Dutch designer whose work blurs the lines between fashionable art and arty fashion, challenging traditional boundaries between fashion, art, and architecture. Renowned for disrupting conventional perceptions of clothing, Peters reimagines how garments interact with the human body, creating soft sculptures that disrupt the ratio of visual and emotional experiences. His designs slow down the viewer, inviting them to experience fashion with a sense of wonderment and contemplation. Through this, Peters promotes the concept of emotional sustainability, urging us to form deeper, more lasting connections with what we wear.

Artistic Vision and Soft Dots

Peters is best known for his "Soft Dots" series, where he creates sculptural abstractions out of textiles. These works blur the lines between clothing, art, and form, offering an immersive, tactile experience that invites viewers to engage with the play of light and shadow. The soft sculptures in this series serve as a reflection on creation and a critique of fashion’s consumerism, using minimalism to explore the potential of slowing down our perception and relationship with clothing. The series disrupts conventional ideas of form, embodying Peters' commitment to creating visual languages that challenge the fast pace of the modern world.

Fashion Meets Art and Architecture

Originally known for his work on the fashion runway, Peters’ designs integrate elements of pop culture, surrealism, and conceptual design, often stretching the relationship between the viewer and the garment. Projects like "A Sweater for the World" used fashion as a universal, connective language, demonstrating his ability to fuse emotional sustainability with thought-provoking social commentary.

Peters has also designed collections for brands such as Kuyichi, Gsus, and Eastpak, as well as products for clients like Fést, Forbo, and Karlsson. His disrupting approach critiques the fast-fashion industry, advocating for a deeper, more mindful engagement with fashion as both a personal and cultural statement. Through his work, Antoine Peters continues to transform fashion into a wonderment-filled art form that slows us down and encourages meaningful reflection.
