Space in Between
Rademakers Gallery will be showcasing Rive Roshan's solo exhibition, "Space in Between," at Design Miami from December 5th to 10th, 2023. This presentation offers a sensorial landscape of positive space, resembling a sacred and poetic sanctuary that encourages relaxation and contemplation. Rive Roshan, composed of Ruben de la Rive Box and Golnar Roshan, understands that the in-between space is not empty but holds the power to shape people's emotions. By carefully selecting materials and exploring colors and shapes, they create transformative objects that play with light, movement, reflection, and perception. These objects, along with the space between them, inspire reflection on our presence in the environment and evoke positive and safe feelings.
The exhibition emphasizes a constant and layered interaction, where the inner space of our minds reflects the external environment. As visitors experience this sensory landscape, the objects in the space transform under the influence of light and reflection, allowing for a shift in perspective. Rive Roshan hopes that by evoking positive and conscious emotions, individuals will develop a more thoughtful and empathetic approach to their surroundings and make progressive choices.
"Space in Between" serves as a statement and remedy against the polarized world we inhabit. Dividing the presentation into two spaces with an interspace, Rive Roshan visualizes the phenomenon of polarization using metaphors from nature, such as light and dark, dusk and dawn, autumn and spring. They convey that polarity is not about extremes but rather different aspects of the same magnetic force, with a rich and vibrant world in between. The "Polarity Panels" bring contrasting materiality and color gradients together, and the two glass tables divide the space, reflecting the surroundings, diffusing light, interacting with the environment, and suggesting movement akin to rippling water. This exhibition aims to challenge perceptions and offer new ways of looking at the world.
